Treatment Description:

What is tartar?

Tartar is plaque that has mineralized. It is a serious problem because it can lead to periodontal inflammation. It is caused by the fact that bacteria gather on the stone and can cause gum and tooth disease. In addition, the plaque is particularly susceptible to discoloration, which is also an aesthetic problem. Tartar is removed during dental sandblasting or so called scaling of the teeth.

What is Scaling?

Scaling is a procedure of removing sediment from the teeth using mechanical or hand-held ultrasonic dental scalers. This is done by generating vibrations at a frequency of tens of thousands of times per second. By applying the scaler to a tooth, the vibrations are transferred to the surface of the tooth, making the tartar break and easy to remove.

What is teeth sand-blasting?

It is a procedure designed to clean teeth from:

- tartar - a hard layer of calcified plates. The formed tartar is too hard to be removed during the daily brushing, or it forms in places hard to reach with a brush. It can occur above and below the gums.

- plaque - appears due to the gathering of pigments from wine, coffee, tea and other food products. It is less dangerous than the tartar, but also should not be underestimated.

- discoloration of teeth - there are many reasons, such as smoking, age or medication

How often should I remove the tartar?

Sandblasting is recommended every 6-12 months, sometimes more often, even every 3-4 months if the patient's teeth are particularly susceptible to the deposition of plague and sediment. Patients wearing braces are recommended to visit a dentist even every 3 months.

Scaling is performed 1-2 times per year, and if needed (for example, in the case of inflammation of gum) can be done even 3-6 times.
